Writers In Progress - The Beginning

WIP began as a simple, self-indulgent idea: an interview series which would allow me to talk with small writers like myself. It'd give them the opportunity to talk about their thought process, writing techniques, and story ideas in a way otherwise unavailable to them. I would get to make new connections and discover different perspectives on the craft we've dedicated ourselves to.

I think we all have fantasies, whether they're literally fantastical or just plain literal. One of the most recurring ones, that I've seen echoed by creative people across all mediums, is an interview. Specifically, one where you're allowed to ramble about your process, analyze your own works, and give absolutely killer one-liners. Loads of fun!
However, for lots of writers -- especially the smaller self-published or unpublished ones -- this dream can often feel out of reach, if not impossible. WIP strives to make this fantasy a reality, bringing a platform to small writers and advice to new ones. We often talk about representation in media, for queer people, people of colour, religious minorities, but it's often difficult to find representation of those who are not "successful."
I mean success in the Hollywood way, mind you, where a ~struggling writer~ is agented, traditionally published, and has an established following. It's difficult to feel like we're making progress when we're not meeting the milestones that are considered "basic" by those outside the industry. Self-publishing is hard, querying is hard, writing in and of itself is hard!
The fact we've written and the lessons we've learned along the way deserve to be celebrated and represented. By providing insight into the minds of writers at all stages of their journeys, people can find a community, representation, and advice relevant to them, WIP intends to do just that.
Interviews slots will be open soon. Please subscribe to the newsletter or follow me on Twitter to be notified of further updates.
